Finding Pants in Pennsylvania

Quiet first week home. I did the usual dentist trip, then got desperately-needed ties and a haircut. Also, lots of pants, as I basically left all my clothes in Siena so that I could bring back actual Italian things like books and wine. Thankfully, I did not bring back any microorganisms.

I’ve reverted to total-veg for these two weeks, in anticipation of the presumably hectic first few days in Boston (most of which I’ll actually be spending in NYC for “orientation”, whatever that means.) Today I experienced the strange epiphany that I’d have to actually start putting things in suitcases and boxes today (I’m visiting with the grandparents in Boston for a day before moving in to the apartment), a thrill of worry that was quickly followed by a wave of relief that I didn’t have to limit myself to only two suitcases and a backpack for this move-in.

Being allowed to carry a whole carload of stuff seems downright luxurious; given how few things I actually brought to Siena, I wonder why exactly I keep carrying this huge bin full of “Misc.” back and forth to Williams every year. I don’t think I’ve ever really delved into it during the semester. But you never know when you’re going to need that deck of cards! Or the 39ยข stamps!

Unrelated P.S.: Yes, they did.
